Wonder Woman

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

So it took a chick character created by a dude with a BDSM fetish to beat out Twilight fan fic porn.

You know, it's true that the Nazis did some really bad stuff. But to make the PRE-Nazi Germans out to be The Worst Thing Evar is just going a little too far. IMHO.

Also, this movie was fucking stupid, and only the fact that she is Very Pretty made it even watchable.

I haven't seen it, so I cannot comment on what you're saying, but I mean, almost 40 million people died due to that war, right?

I remember in school being taught that it had the highest mortality rate among the soldiers, if I recall. The use of chemical weapons and also dynamite which despite being used in many westerns really wasn't around until later.

It was brutal because of tech and lots of dumb-ass European military thought.

Yes but the movie wasn't about how awful WWI was. It was about how awful the Germans, and in particular this one German general, was.

Minor spoiler attached: but that guy was somewhat based on reality, but with movie exaggerations: http://www.vulture.com/2017/06/wonder-w ... erson.html

Exactly. You have to have an actual antagonist for these things. See Sphere. Samuel Jackson said about that movie something along the lines of, the problem was we made a monster movie without a monster.

I remember a quote from a review of Lethal Weapon 4 that ripped the movie. The writer said something along the lines of: "The protagonist is nothing without a strong antagonist."

I agree. Villains make a story.

Saw it.

I wouldn't say this movie sucked or was bad, but it is definitely not as good as I was hearing.

You could see the re-writes and re-shoots throughout. The film was filled with really shallow characters who were never fleshed out. The dialogue was also pretty weak, especially those scenes between Chris Pine and Gal Gadot. And WOW, there is NO chemistry between those two. Gal Gadot is so beautiful and Chris Pine is so clearly not attracted to her that I honestly started to wonder if he's gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). I honestly found him to be unlikable. One of the reasons he exceeds as Kirk is because his natural personality comes off as cocky and charming, but this role completely limited that. I think he was poorly cast. Anyway, their scenes were brutal to sit through because of that lack of chemistry and bad dialogue. I compare those scenes to sitting through a long joke setup and then the punchline never being delivered or being delivered badly.

The villains were not impressive, particularly the final baddie.

Set pieces and direction were top notch. The movie was beautiful. I just think the writing wasn't equally as solid.

I was entertained, but I actively was thinking to myself "When does this get really good?"

I was born bitter, old, and jaded. And ornery.

Why are kids that young watching PG-13 movies?

Why did parents agree to revamp a birthday party 3 days before it was being thrown?

This just in, kids can be swayed and inspired by movies, even ones that aren't great or good. Shocking I know...

Little kids being inspired by a movie doesn't mean shit about the film's quality. People were inspired by the original Batman, the original Superman films, Spider-Man 3, Pacific Rim, etc.

That being said, it's why I didn't show any hint of being disappointed walking out of the theater. I didn't want to have my disappointment affect my kids' enthusiasm for the movie.
