Kim Basinger is an abused wife who goes out Christmas shopping and runs into some bad teens. She spends the rest of her night fighting to survive.
For those of you who like quick summaries, this is not a good film.
I realize the film is supposed to highlight Kim's struggle to survive and the realizations she makes based upon her night of terror, but the director does a piss poor job of getting that across.
The biggest problem is that there's no tension or suspense at all. In fact, you have to really pretend that she can't simply run off into the night to survive this ordeal. I'm serious about this. At any point in the film, Kim simply has to turn around and run off into the woods, but she never does.
What she does do is carry around a red metal toolbox. Because if you're in a life or death struggle against a group of teens, one of whom has a gun, you need to carry a toolbox. I'm sure it was supposed to symbolize something, but I have no idea what.
The way in which Kim dispatches her potential killers is ridiculous. Ever play a third person shooter where the AI sucks and the bad guys stand around and let you kill them without reacting? This is the film version of that.
Oh, and the dialogue is abysmal. the main bad guy's monologue near the end is hilariously cliche and just so fucking terrible.
Speaking of that scene, that's when I knew this was written by a woman. (I just checked, seriously, and I'm right, it was.) Why? Because it became a Lifetime movie. Not only in how she "wins" against the main bad guy, but also in the predictable ending.
Horribly written. Horribly directed.
Don't bother.
2 out of 10.
While She Was Out
Almost forgot to mention...
One of the deaths in the film is so ridiculously over the top that it made me laugh my ass off. It's right out of a Friday the 13th movie, and it was committed by this suburban housewife.
