Sci-fi book recommendations.

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I'm on a sci-fi kick. Recommend to me some books I haven't read yet... if you can.

I'll lend you Girls next time I see you.

Until then, go to the library.

You could read "I Am Legend" and tell us what has Will Smith so nervous.

I prefer buying used off amazon.com than going to a library where homeless people spend their afternoons.

I have a theory about I Am Legend, but if I say it and it comes true, Gordon will get pissed at me again.

Another idea on the Sci-Fi books: Read Dianetics and tell us what Scientology is all about. You know, besides the lunacy, greed, slavery, and intimidation.

I agree with Gordon. At the library you actually have to interact with people and stuff.

I've already seen the first two movies based off the story, so I doubt Will Smith's version will have any new surprises.

Anything by Heinlein. Neal Stephenson is good, too. Also, Gordon, you might like Gordon R. Dickson's "Dorsai" books.

Hmmm, according to Wiki, it is the same premise, but might be much different than the original versions.

Also, Arnie was apparently the first choice to star, but that was back in the 90s.

Not mine. You go online and request the book, a couple of days later you get an email, go to the library and pull it from the holds shelf, scan your card and book yourself and walk out the door. And if the Harris County library system doesn't have it, they can get it through ILL. I haven't found a book yet they couldn't get.

I'm currently working my way through all of Heinlein again in a build-up to reading the final posthumous book written by Spider Robinson from Heinlein's outline. I'm up to Between Planets. It's going to take awhile.

Uh...Starship Troopers without the politics? Ender's Game without the Mormonism? I dunno.

I'd recommend William Gibson's entire catalog up till the mid '80s. Maybe the mid '90s if you're feeling especially bored.

I stumbled onto this site and thought of this thread, Gordo.

Maybe you'll come up with a book to read there.

Just ordered:

Empire - Card
Children of Hurin - Tolkein
The Forge of God - Bear
Mote in God's Eye - Niven/Pournelle
The Road - McCarthy
Fallen Angels - Niven

All hardcovers!

Amazon's used book catalog rules. Got a couple of those for $1.50 (plus $4 to ship).

That ought to keep me busy for a month, or so.

Once while on deployment I read a borrowed book... sci-fi... military themed... they were fighting aboard a space ship called "The Truculent."

Does that ring a bell for anybody?
