Primeval

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

If you saw the early trailers of this film, you know that the marketing campaign was designed to make this appear as a horror film based on a real serial killer.

Once the film got close to release, the truth came out, it was about a crocodile. The croc is real, but the rest of the story is bunk.

Basically, two journalists, a cameraman, and a wildlife expert head to Africa to capture a legendary killer croc. While there they get mixed up with a local warlord.

This film doesn't know if it wants to be a horror, a drama, or a political statement about Africa. Anyway you want to look at it, it'd fail at all of them.

The horror side of things isn't very scary. None of the moments with the croc have any sort of suspense as the croc is painted as the ultimate hunter that cannot be stopped. It can sneak like the best thief, run like Jesse Owens, and understands all things human like cages, tents, grenades, etc.

The drama side just plain sucks. The side plot of the African warlord is barely put together and leaves you with a "ho-hum" every time that story takes center stage.

The political statement side is a huge joke too. You cannot have a character (in this case the cameraman played by Orlando Jones) make huge statements about how life is rough in Africa and nobody cares while also having him refuse to help anyone there and bitch about how he hates Africa. Orlando should not have been the only black American in this expedition if they wanted to pull this shit. Would it have killed them to cast two black actors? One could've said the serious stuff, while the second would've contrasted it.

I'm not even going to bother to discuss the liberties they took with the croc.

A stupid film that doesn't deserve your attention.

3 out of 10.
