Most overrated horror films?

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Top 17 by an Amazon customer.

What an asshat. He probably thinks Cabin Fever was the bomb.

To start, his choice at #1 is lame. Yeah, the movie sucked, but the entire planet already knows that. It was overhyped, not overrated.

The Toxic Avenger and Evil Dead 2:Dead by Dawn even being on this list proves he's an idiot. The Toxic Avenger is not a horror film. It's a sci-fi parody. Evil Dead 2 was a horror parody. (And let's be honest here...you don't attack Bruce on the web.)

Adding The Thing, The Shining, and Friday the 13th to his list just shows why the internet giving a voice to everyone is not only a good thing.

I wonder why only 1 of 13 people found his list helpful?

When the fuck did Maniac, Burial Ground, House on Haunted Hill, Prom Night, Changeling, and C.H.U.D. ever make you expect anything other than a mindless film? Maniac is interesting only cos it's somewhat graphic & House on Haunted Hill is a fucking remake.

But hitting on Friday the 13th, Poltergeist, damn that's just wrong.

Let's take a look at the informed comments...

- I Spit on Your Grave
"Unbalanced, gratuitous, and poorly made, in every department. Wrong way to make a statement"

Low-budget gore-fest made specifically to be bloody as all hell. If you go into the flick thinking anything else is going on, you're a fucking idiot.

- The Thing (John Carpenter, remake)
"Over-the-top special effects are too much. They detract from the already unappealing, weak storyline."

That head spouting legs & spider-walking away was creepy. Fuck you.

- The Shining
"Jack Nicholson's over-the-top performance ruins an already heavy-handed production by nutsy Stanley Kubrick"

Yeah, his "over-the-top" performance of a dude that went homicidally insane. Kubrick was a weird dude, though.

-The Omen
"The subject matter is too heavy for one little ol' movie. The plot should have been lightened up if they hoped to get this to work for a 2 hour mainstream movie"

You're high. It did work, goatfuck.

This dude has either a) too much spare time, b) an ax to grind, or c) is being intentionally obtuse.

Carpenter's The Thing is one of the greatest horror movies ever.

If Thing is on the list, I don't even care about what else the guy thinks.

It was good. It had a bit of a logic issue with what the damned thing was. At times it acted like a physical being. At times it was more like a virus or entity.

As long as you weren't looking for answers and just wanted to be freaked out, it did its job quite well.

Doesn't matter to me WHAT it was.

It was 9 guys in the Antarctic with nowhere to go, they didn't know who to trust, and there was no damned ultra-hot PhD scientist politically correct female love interest to try to please the female demographic.

That last one was the exact reason I loved The Last Castle, except she would have been the hot chick attornet trying to get him out of prison.

The only female role in the whole thing was his daughter for a two minute visit.
