I know someone who has 256MB of RAM and they want to upgrade it. Just go to a GB or something like that for cheap. With Dimm,Simm, DDR,DDR2,DDR3 how can I find out what their motherboard uses without seeing it myself?

Is there something in XP that will tell you that info and is easy for PC illiterate people to use? I could tell them to open up the PC and tell me if the RAM has a sticker on it giving its info but I doubt they could find the RAM when they opened it.

Usually you can tell from the processor information, since certainly technologies go with certain CPUs.

I have used the Crucial system analyzer before with good results.
It's not me, it's someone else.

Any chance of identifying the specific mobo or system model? I've always just gone right to the documentation for that sort of thing.
