Sabotage - Yay! Netflix

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Arnold's next film. Looks decent.

Bonus points if the Beastie Boys track opens up the film.

I do not remember hearing the Beastie Boys.

The trailer looked great. The actual film...not so much. This is all about the writing. There's just no logic to it whatsoever.

A brief summary of the film: Arnold is a legendary federal officer in the war on drugs and leads a spec ops team of former criminals(?) or just total scumbags. They decide to rob a drug lord, but things go wrong which puts them on the wrong side of the law and the drug lords. Now Arnold and a total cop have to save his team.

That synopsis could go on the back of the box, and it's perfectly accurate...and total bullshit.

If you want to keep a group of people alive, this movie is like a "how to" of what not to do. For a guy portrayed as so savvy, Arnie sure does let his people die without even attempting to protect them.

The dialogue is really, really bad in several spots, and most of the characters are ridiculously one dimensional. The plot twists (more than one) are also more shock because of their stupidity than because they're interesting turns in the plot.

The biggest plot holes are the two that set the movie off, which is not a good sign. I've cover those in a minute.

Before I summarize, I do want to mention that the ending is very unsatisfying. If you spend even a second thinking about it, you'll see that the whole story paints the protagonist in a VERY poor light.

For now, if you have an action jones and want to see a bunch of b listers with Arnie, you won't hang yourself, but you could do better. Rent the one where he's a sheriff instead of this one. It's not a great film either, but at least it's entertaining and doesn't take itself too seriously.

MAJOR Spoilers Below

1. If they were so tight, and yada yada, why didn't he just tell them? Why not just take more? There was a metric fuck ton of money there!
2. How did he magically take it? He never touched the line and they all left together.
3. How did the feds find out? How do you count money that's been blown up and burned? The only way they could have known (if they could actually count it) is if someone from the drug cartel told them. If someone from the drug cartel told them, why didn't they go after them? Oh, but wait, they did! That's why that assassin team was there. But why didn't they attempt to find out where the money was? How did those team members know about them? This is all making my head hurt and I haven't even touched how the case got mysteriously dropped.
4. Why did the team members never do anything prior to the case being dropped? What sense did what they were doing make? Why didn't they question anyone?
5. This was a bad movie.

The movie was eh. Arnold plays slightly out of character.... yeah he is still shooting guns and chomping cigars, but it is about 1% deeper than his just playing a good guy or a terminator. Barely 1%.

I saw the same plot holes Leisher did.

Ending was dumb, and I am not even sure if he did what he set out to do. I don't know.

And from the beginning I was thinking, "Are the DEA supposed to be the good guys?" WAR ON DRUGS, you know.

Anyway, free on Netflix.
"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."
