Garth Ennis is a twisted fuck, but a good writer. A few years back, he started a comic called Crossed.
I recently grabbed a few of the trades on recommendations because I like end of the world stories.
Crossed is like zombies crossed with Caligula. A virus has struck man, but instead of it turning people into the walking dead, they're very much alive, bloodthirsty, and anything even remotely like an inhibition is long, long gone.
Think of some sick shit that people can do to each other, and Crossed crosses that line. I can't stress enough that this isn't something you'll feel comfortable reading in public or in the same room as your family.
It's not just gore for gore's sake though. Like The Walking Dead, Crossed explores how those who aren't "Crossed" survive.
Apparently Garth only wrote the first TPB or two. After that other writers jump in and do a story line, then jump off and someone else takes over. Each writer tells a story about a different group of survivors. None of the stories overlap.
If you can stomach it, and you like end of the world scenarios I recommend grabbing the first twos TPBs and giving them a read.
Anyway, there's also a webcomic that I just found out about today. It was recently completed, and the whole story is available in an archive. It's called Crossed: Wish You Were Here.
If you decide to read that, here's what you need to know:
-VERY adult content
-Infected folks have a rash in the shape of a cross on their face
Crossed
They're sociopaths without inhibitions. They're gone. Dead, but breathing and killing. Contagious, fast, twisted.
