How much cash do you typically keep in your wallet?

Almost always zero. I would keep more cash in there, but it is just inconvenient getting to it.

I usually try to keep about $100. Try to get the wife to keep at least a $20 of "just in case" money, but it's hard to get her to do it.

You need a better wallet.

I try to keep between $100 and $200. Admittedly, I rarely need it, but it's "just in case" money, and you never know how big of a just in case you are going to need.

About 2 decades ago, I was caught in a "blizzard" and ran off the road near Charlotte, trying to get from Athena, GA to Winston-Salem, NC. I called AAA, who of course was slammed, and told me it would be 6 hours or so. I then saw a tow truck in the parking lot I was in, so I ran up to him and asked if he was looking for me. "Uh, no." came the response. I told him I just needed to be pulled back on the road, not a tow, and would pay cash. He agreed for $50... and of course I only had $20 or so. Fortunately, he was also nice enough to take me to an ATM machine, so it all worked out. And, I'm sure that cash never got reported to his boss or the IRS.

I tend to pull $200 in cash for small incidental purchases, and then when that's gone (usually about three weeks or so) I fill 'er up again. For most purchases I use my ViSA, but if it's a small transaction or at a drive-thru or restaurant I tend to use cash for those.

Similar here TPR. I use cash at fast food joints and convenience stores. Debit for most everything else. Top off the wallet to about $100 on the weekend.

Yeah, I do a monthly deposit of work checks, and pull $200 at that time for incidentals. Use credit cards for all purchases above $5 though, since I get 2.222222% back.
