Don Jon

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt wrote, directed, and stars in this film. The rest of the cast is ScarJo, Julianna Moore, Tony Danza, Glenne Headly, and I believe that was Brie Larson playing Silent Bob...uh, I mean his sister... Cameos by Channing Tatum, Anne Hathaway, and Cuba Gooding Jr.

The whole cast is rock solid. No complaints about the acting in the film. The direction is solid too. JGL makes a few rookie takes here and there with odd angles, but whatever. Overall, he does a great job.

His writing was solid too. This is a film that could impact you. This is a film that will resonate with many of you. It's a film that could lead to divorce. Not kidding.

See, JGL doesn't really pull any punches here. He lays out how a young single man sees the world. He doesn't pull off the naive, douche bag goggles either. Getting laid is king, but porn is better. Take care of yourself and your boys. Yada yada yada.

It's awesome. :D I'm sure it'll come as no shock to any of you that I can relate to this character. The first 30 minutes of the movie will have you looking at your SO and thinking, YEAH!

Then he meets ScarJo, and for the next 45 minutes your SO will be looking at you thinking, YEAH. And honestly, this part is really well done because if you're not paying attention, you're just nodding along. You're specifically looking for the numbers to paint your story, and that's exactly what he wants.

Then he drops the other shoe, and you start to realize how fucked up the numbers are, and it's great.

I should warn you, this is like an anti-romantic comedy. This is one of those films that if your relationship is weak or there are "issues" there, well, you're going to be experiencing some very awkward moments if you watch it together.

I should point out that the message isn't that relationships suck, but how we get tangled into bad ones does...

This movie isn't for everyone (Lots of folks won't be able to get past the shots at porn, praises of porn, the shots at relationships, etc.), and I definitely would recommend you watch it alone.

If you remember that single guy you used to be, and you're not completely lost in whatever relationship you're currently in, this is an entertaining film.
