I think it depends on your audience. These guys were obviously not selling the latest COD to console playing teens.
Still, I do agree that vapid airheads (and LOVE that the article calls out their intelligence and attitudes) shouldn't be shilling your product. They should simply be booth decoration.
That being said, if a dude is trying to sell you X and knows everything about it, and a hot girl was right next to him trying to sell you the same product, and also knew everything about it...who would you buy from?
Perhaps it's a training issue?
