The Grand Budapest Hotel

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

This looks amusing, in an O Brother, Where Art Thou? sort of way.

The latest Wes Anderson film.

Meh.

Cute, but linear story. Not as much depth to the characters as I hoped for or expected. Not a ton of quirkiness either.

4/10

Tons of famous people. Imaginative, creative, visually interesting, just not stimulating, no real plot. A wonderland tour, that doesn't show as much of the wonderland as you might want.

This. Wes Anderson has become more about his style than about the content. Some NSFW language

I just learned that Wes Anderson and Wes Craven are two different people. I had them both lumped together in my head under the label Wes Anderson.

Some comments about various movies suddenly are much less confusing.

I think most of Anderson's work is so bad that people assume it's over their head, and they don't want people to think they're stupid, so they say they loved it.

Reading the reviews here certainly made me think that.

I've seen a lot of his movies, and here's my overall:
Bottle rocket - Meh. I just didn't get what other people saw in it. (7.2)
Rushmore - Awesome. Wonderful soundtrack to go with it. (7.8)
The Royal Tenenbaums - Great. Not Rushmore, but close. (7.6)
The Life Aquatic - Abortion. Awful. (7.3)
The Darjeeling Limited - Very good, entertaining. (7.2)
Moonrise Kingdom - Very, very good. Not quite Rushmore/RT good, but well worth watching. (7.8)
The Grand Budapest Hotel - Not quite as bad as the Life Aquatic, but not good. (8.4)

So I've seen every movie he's done, except the Fantastic Mr Fox. I watched the first few minutes of that and decided I didn't want to see it.

Imdb scores added in parentheses.

So far I've liked Moonrise Kingdom and the Fantastic Mr Fox. The rest have been meh.

Haven't seen the newest one yet.
