If it gets to the quit-and-delete stage, try googling "FTLTrainer".

Back when I remember playing this, there was a save file out that let you play as any ship. I jumped on that early.

I need to fire it up and remember what the strats were. Shoot the enemies weapon systems first, upgrade your shields, and just be ok with dying a lot.

So... you cheated early?

My general strategy has been to raise my shields, and attack their shields/weapons, but it's so damned easy to die.

For sure, but the first ship is good. I used it a lot, and died, which i think is the point.

Someone in the know compare/contrast ship combat with MOO2, the last spacey RTS into which I delved.

I know nothing about MOO2.

I unlocked a 2nd ship today... Game is suddenly MUCH easier. Haven't even died yet, and almost through.

I've gotten addicted to this game again lately.

It helps that I can load it up at work, play for a minute or two, paused it, and come back at my leisure.

Still have not beaten it. I've gotten to sector 8 a ton of times, but I always have bad luck hit me.

However, last night I unlock the Mantis Cruiser. Anyone else have that ship?

Is that the one that gives you a ready-to-go boarding team and teleporter?

I always have fun with that ship until I blow up salvage with my team inside. Then I cry.

I can't stop playing Dwarf Fortress lately, myself. I need a good multi game. (not LOL)

I've been doing the Masterwork mod. It's kind of like a completely different game. Magic, guns, new invasions ... all kinds of neat stuff.

I was sure I was going to lose during a Warlock siege last night when my one random mage migrant dwarf left the hospital(critical injuries can wait!) and dropped a wall of flame right in the battle and melted half my army and the entire Warlock army. It was epic, and ended up burning half the map up.

I live for unscripted in-game story like that.

Got done with board reports and jumped on the Gila Monster this afternoon. Had an army of 4 Mantis early on (featuring the unstoppable duo of Fish and Sticks), but two died in random events. Fought my way back, and finally won the game.

I did it with a human-free crew, 2 lvl 2 burst lasers, and a Hermes missle system.

The funny thing is I didn't beat my own high score. I had a run with the Red Tail last night that was a thing of beauty. I still don't know how I ended up not beating the boss that game.

I now have 4 of the 9 ships.

Boy is that the game in a nutshell. Aside from dying repeatedly.
