The oil-producing state of Texas salutes our brothers in North Carolina for their brave stance on this delicate issue.

So $50-100 because you don't pay for gas and thus don't pay for the roads?

NC has/had really nice roads, so sure, why not. I don't find this as infuriating as all the other crazy stuff going through the legislature lately.

An entirely insane and crooked argument that's technically correct. The best kind of correct.

A friend of mine and I had a mini-FB debate on it. He saw this as an assault on green cars, I saw it as paying their fair share for the roads.

"The old system of collecting money for our roads is outdated. If this is the best way that we can do that then we're going to be in some trouble for a very long time," said NC Sierra Club Communications Director Dustin Chicurel-Bayard.

On one hand, yeah, the gov't is slow to react to new technology and how it affects their various rackets, so fuck them.

"We need to look at overall how we raise the money for our infrastructure and find new solutions rather than penalizing people who drive clean cars," said Chicurel-Bayard.

On the flip side, I bet this dude would be bitching if this cash got made up by taking away the $7500 tax credit that certain hybrids still get you. So fuck him.

I can see both sides of the argument, but I fail to see how the 5k people paying the hybrid tax are going to make any kind of difference to the roads budget. States already make a shitload of money from the gas tax. Hybrids are lighter and tear up the roads less, so I don't see how they should be punished. Maybe if they didn't need 7 people for every fill-in-the-pothole project they would be able to live within their existing budget. I amnot exaggerating, at least up here in Ohio. Whenever I see local roadwork it is 2 guys to hold the Slow/Stop signs at each end of the "Roadwork ahead/1 lane traffic" zone that extends 200 yards, 1 guy with a tie standing around watching, one guy with the hazard vest that still stands around watching, 1 guy driving the truck sitting in his cab, and 2 guys with actual shovels in their hands where, face it, 1 would suffice.

I once saw, no shit, 14 shovel guys packed into a 15x15 space where they were pouring a square of new concrete in the road, in Cleveland. I was at a stoplight and had time to count them, and that didn't include the supervisors and managers and union bosses and whatever off to the side watching. Holy shit.

Anyway, that's all I have to say about that. Live within your means, cocksuckers, instead of nickel and diming the entire fucking world to support your kingdom.

I've driven in Ohio, you have a fuckload of potholes, at least compared to NC.

In ATL they have the genius solution of putting a gigantic metal plate over the pothole, which messes up tires and makes a godawful racket.

It's kind of like covering up a dog's poop with newspaper and forgetting about it.
