I've never heard of this news source, but if this is real, it's pretty interesting.
If Texas is successful, I could see a lot of states following suit. Seems like these measures would be no brainers for politicians who want to gain easy non-partisan votes by saving us from big brother.
Texas
They will lose. They will lose big. Since the 19th century, the Supreme Court has rejected every single case using nullification as its basis. At least half a dozen very high profile cases, I'm not sure how many minor ones.
States can declare federal laws to be bullshit, but the feds can still swoop in and enforce them. States do not have the means to resist the feds if push comes to shove.
The earliest assertion of the theories of nullification and interposition is found in the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions of 1798, which were a protest against the Alien and Sedition Acts. In these resolutions, authors Thomas Jefferson and James Madison argued that "the states" have the right to interpret the Constitution and can declare federal laws unconstitutional when the federal government exceeds its delegated powers. These resolutions are considered the foundational documents of the theories of nullification and interposition.

I really think they need to call the FAA's bluff.
No way does the FAA cut off a state the size of Texas. How many lawsuits would be created overnight by companies and consumers who live in or do business with Texas? How much political capital would it give the secede folks? How many other states would immediately follow suit with Texas' move, and does the FAA shut down the whole country?
The FAA is full of shit. I'm sure they'd try something, and be immediately bitch slapped by courts, politicians, etc.

No way their balls are that big, not even in Texas. Maybe if Ross Perot were governor or someone of equal combination elephantine testicles & insanity. While Rick Perry is insane, I don't think he's got the nads.

I don't think it will take much to start pushing states like Texas and Idaho over the edge. Let Social Security checks, or federal food stamps (are they federal?) not get mailed for a single month, and watch the dominoes start to fall.Malcolm wrote:No way their balls are that big, not even in Texas. Soon as some state decides they want to roll the dice, I'll retract my statement. Until then, I maintain my "not going to fucking happen anytime soon" stance. I would bet the feds call in military or national guard to escort the TSA to work before they ever let one reject rent-a-cop jackboot leave the airport. That shit is never going away. The last vestige of this country will be a TSA worker checking bags in a postapocalytpic style scenario where the airport is the hub of a small centre of trade and transport. One day, someone will just shoot that one last incompetent, third-rate fascist and be done with it. At that glorious hour, only then will the TSA truly be dead. Until then, just remember, say hi to the friendly TSA folks at your local neighbourhood airport as they rifle through your belongings and use your 4th amendment rights as toilet paper and comedic material.
The TSA ... making terrorists looks comparatively less batshit insane and far more competent since 2001.
EDIT: Gentlemen, this is the calibre of balls you'd need. Granted, he's got that look of a brutal dictator, so someone should probably stop him.
