I swear Google and Apple are in a war to see who is the bigger dick.

Apple wins until Google starts rolling out proprietary hardware. They will, inevitably, ramp us the douchebag factor as the smartphone war continues. This is giving me pause to consider a Winblows phone instead of anything that fucking runs Droid. If only Windows mobile didn't have that looming potential disaster in Windows 8. MS seems to fuck up every other Windows release with almost clockwork regularity, and Windows 7 was at least competent. This means 8 is going to suck on Millennium levels.

Windows 8 is getting a good head start. Remember, it's being built on top of Windows 7...

I'm purchasing a few W8 licenses this week, a W8 phone, and a few Surfaces. We're going to be putting them through their paces in the new few months. If anyone is curious, I'll post my findings then.

I really don't want to put off buying a smartphone, but damned if Google isn't pissing me off right as I was about to buy products built on their software.

EDIT: I've seen the RC or Beta or whatever Windows 8 has out. I was not encouraged by what I saw. I'm already anticipating the "you're not using it the way we intended" bullshit they kept trumpeting every time Vista's UI worked in a bizarre fashion.

Microsoft's problem has always been that they design operating systems for their own engineers and not the consumer.

You can add "developer tools" to that list as well. Entity Framework 4 is finally starting to be what EF1 should have been.

EDIT: I won't even get into the the artificially difficult bullshit that is Windows systems programming. *nix might be open source, but the process/memory management is ten millions times better. If only the UI and compatibility for that OS family weren't centuries behind MS.

It outputs to a Gutenberg press and is only compatible with Babbage's difference engine?

If it's lucky. The lack of a quality Linux UI implementation continues to astonish me. Not that it matters since the real cash cow software isn't developed for it.
