The Kentucky Elk lottery is now open for $10 a ticket.
A few charities get a bull tag each year and they auction them off for around $10k.

Fifteen years ago there were no wild elk in Kentucky, but now Kentucky has the biggest elk herd this side of the Rockies.
Winning, and being able to hunt one would be a a real honor, and a once in a lifetime opportunity.

You do not need to be a Kentucky resident to enter (but if you win you'll need to purchase a KY license and an elk tag).

You an buy a maximum of two tickets, and only one ticket per category. The categories are Firearm-Antlered, Firearm Antlerless, Bow-Antlered, and Bow-Antlerless. You can use a crossbow.

If bow hunting is your thing, go with that. If you want meat, go for antlerless. There are more antlerless tags available and fewer people buy antlerless and bow tags, so you have substantially better odds with antlerless/archery entries.

I have no confidence in my archery abilities, so I'll probably enter for both firearm tickets.

It is totally a scam. It's like Snipe... anyone who has claimed to actually see one is just messing with you. Video footage? CGI. See one in the wild? Animatronics, and sometimes hallucinogens used in conjunction with hypnotic suggestion.

There is a lot of money in perpetuating the Elk Myth.

I heard that elk meat was delicious (a lot better than deer).
So, uh, what are they really eating?

"They" are just messing with you. One cannot eat what does not exist. They are probably affiliated with Big Elk, in some way.

But last year I got to see 30-something of them.

And this winter I'll go down and watch 50 of them designated to help repopulate MO.
What could KY have that we need to hide in animatronic elk to export to MO?

What is Big Elk up to?

I didn't see the inside.

Well, I saw one necropsy pic, and it looked like the elk was full of meat and blood and guts.

Think they're putting elk costumes on deer?

Maybe even reindeer????

See, that elk doesn't look realistic at all. Obviously faked.

I agree.
The elk is fake. You can't see the eyes or the wings.
It's obviously just someone in a bad elk costume.

Drove throuh an 'Elk Refuge' in Wyoming yesterday. Miles and miles of..... nothing. Coincidentally, no elk were available that day. They are really committed to the elk lie around here..... probably because it brings in the tourist money.

Maybe wolves ate'em all?
I Google'd wolves in Wyoming and evidently the wolf populations are large enough that they allowed wolf hunting last year.
Wolves are hitting the Yellowstone elk population pretty hard and people have proposed hunting them to keep the numbers down.

Or maybe this schlub gave them all noogies so they ran away?

We were staying in Jackson. We saw the construction they are talking about which they think may be causing these landslides.

Lotta rich folks there, and a lotta hippies that like the skiing, snowboarding, rafting, etc. I don't know how the hippes can afford to live there... one I was talking to said that the housing situation is dire, for them. "10 years ago it was the millionaires buying up all the property and pushing the little guys out. Now it is the billionaires pushing out the millionaires."

Thib apparently just repeated my Yellowstone/Jackson Hole vacation from last year. Sorta like a "Life of GORDO" tour.

Tell us about it, Thib. See any fake elk?
