ST: TOS - Yay Netflix!
Watching the original series, and amazed at how some of the episodes still stand up...aside from the effects, of course.
Although, the differences in culture is hilarious. The women are almost always helpless eye candy, and I'm watching an episode right now where McCoy just pimp slapped a woman to shut her up.
It has also occurred to me that Star Trek got bigger once the reigns were taken away from Roddenberry. Roddenberry tried to use Star Trek to push a liberal agenda without anyone realizing it, and was sort of successful. However, those hidden messages were mostly abandoned when others took over the show. For example: In "Mirror Mirror" when McCoy talks about Sulu being a "Security Chief" on the Enterprise in the mirror universe, and how insane that concept is, yet ST:TNG had a security chief from day one.

The episodes on Netflix are not the remastered FX ones? Check those out on my blu rays, sometime. Really good.
"Balance of Terror" is one of the best eps of season 1.
I think I recall the scene with Slappy McCoy you are talking about.... the look Spock gives him when he is working his "bedside manner" on her made me laugh out loud.
ALso in season 2 there is an amazing scene when Kirk kisses a woman tenderly, then passionately... and literally 1.8 seconds later, he punches her right in the fucking face. It is breathtaking.
Here is the original Star Trek: TOS Blu Ray thread.

No idea if they're remastered or not. They're good enough, but do me a favor and try playing the "Babel" episode in Season 2. When I try to play it, the video stops, while the audio continues on. It's the episode when we first meet Spock's parents (when his dad isn't playing a Romulan, of course...I am correct in believing that was him right?).

Which one was that? I was impressed at how good the Khan episode was even after all this time.

YES! Spock did make a funny face.
I've been watching the relationship between Kirk, Bones, and Spock, and it is interesting to watch how it has developed from episode 1.

As I was reading this, I had no idea that I was watching that episode at the time. I almost did a spit take when he knocked her out.

If you go to Netflix.com, you can go into "Your Account" and report problems with things you have watched. I report occasional audio/video synching issues I encounter.Leisher wrote:No idea if they're remastered or not. They're good enough, but do me a favor and try playing the "Babel" episode in Season 2. It has been reported.
I think when I get done with TOS I'm going to move onto the movies, and stop before the TNG ones. Then move into the TNG series, movies, then figure out if I really want to watch DS9, V, or Enterprise.

Anyone: Hey Malcolm, what series should I watch, next?
First couple seasons are ok.

The Gary Seven episode was terrible. No wonder they didn't make it into a show.
The whole episode is about whether or not Kirk can trust Gary because he doesn't know who he is, and then at the end he discusses how they've consulted their ship's historical files and finds that Gary has all sorts of adventures in the future.
Why didn't they do that in the first 5 minutes and saved me an hour?
Stupid.

Dr. Pulaski was quite a hottie back in the day. I never realized she was in TOS. I also think she was preggers in her second appearance.
