Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Another comic movie.

Saw previews for this twice in the past two weeks. The general feeling from those around me was, "Wow, this film looks like it fucking sucks."

I like how different it looked.

I don't like how it seems the ending is right there in the trailer.

I trust Michael Cera. He does good work.

He plays the same goddamned character in every movie he's in. It's like Will Ferrell minus twenty years.

True. But he does it well.

He reminds me of every idiot slacker nerd I've ever met that's bitched about how they hate their life & yet refused to do anything constructive to change. Such characters do not elicit sympathy from me.

I disagree. Those people there's something pathetic about. When Michael Cera does it he makes it somehow loveable. He portrays that inner something that lets you know this character will be blooming during the course of the movie.

Any movie he's in, I continually hope he gets stuffed into a locker for the remainder after scene one.

Scott Pilgrim didn't set the box office on fire making only $10 million on its opening weekend.

I read one article with reasons as to why, but one stood out because the executive quoted is either Malcolm or a friend of his:
"Aside from recasting, I don't know what they could have done," the individual with knowledge of the marketing campaign told TheWrap. "I don't know why or when this occurred, but somehow this industry became convinced without any evidence that Michael Cera is a star."

"Who wants to hang out with this guy? He's the kid you shoved in a locker," the executive added.

I couldn't agree more.

I liked him in Arrested Development, but he's not a guy who makes me want to see a movie. The fact that he's the lone holdout for an Arrested Development project because his ego is too large doesn't help.

I really enjoyed this. If you don't like late 80s early 90s video games then you won't enjoy it but it was pretty good.

Those games are in my wheelhouse. And this still sucked. Roommate DVR'd it. It sucked even more. This movie was so shitty, it sobered me out of my buzz. If John Hughes and the dudes that did "Tron" had the special effects and story, maybe. But some comics just shouldn't fucking be made into movies.

I liked it. Then I read the comic and liked that better. But the movie was still good.

I wish you would have given your opinion early Malcolm. After reading the board for a bit I started using you as sort of a reverse rotten tomato. If Malcolm hates it it goes to the top of my netflix list.

Which means that if we ever get an apartment together we must make sure we have two TVs.

This movie was about as enjoyable as "Garfield" on audio tape as read by Ben Stein.

No one told me it was a kung fu flick.

That was delightful.

That's stretching and bastardizing the definition of the genre to a sacrilegious extent.

Many parts of it reminded me of Kung Fu Hustle.

Had a couple friends over tonight and we watched this.

They said, "New worst-movie I've ever seen. It has surpassed Skyline."
