Mother nature took a swing our way last night. Severely damaged a school 10 miles south. Then headed our way. Killed several people in a town 5 miles south. Think the nearest house that was leveled was about 4 miles away.

I was going to ask if anyone here was close to where the storms his the worst.

Dundee, MI got nailed pretty hard too, but no deaths reported yet.

We lost power for about a minute. We had a couple of lightning strikes that were close and shook the house. That was interesting.

Someone look around my house if you're in the area.

Curious about that damned trampoline.

Did you mean to put the trampoline on top of your Trans Am before you left?

It is all good. Trampoline in the driveway just the way you left it. Unk

Dawn's mom is going in to feed the plants and water the cat. She said something is beeping in the basement, I'm sure due to the power outage and the numerous UPSs in the house.

Now I wish you had a key to make sure everything is kosher with the backup sump pump on the battery.

Took a tour yesterday. Several barns south less than 2 miles. Shit.

Some details from Saturday:

This tornado began developing right over our lake where my 5 year old was staying. The path it takes here is in an area I've driven through 100+ times over the last few summers. (23 North to 50 West and 50 East to 23 South)
Map of the Dundee tornado's path.

My wife was at a bachelorette party when the Millbury tornado touched down. One of the women in the group was from Millbury and her kids were calling her screaming that the tornado was coming right at them. She had no way of leaving the party, and was telling them to calm down, etc. The ladies had no idea how bad the storm really was or I guarantee that woman would have called a cab or ran home. Still, I bet she doesn't leave her kids' side for a long time.

I'm hearing a lot of stories from parents who were out while their kids were home alone or with sitters. All are saying their kids were terrified, and the parents were terrified of not being there even if there was nothing they could have done.

A co-worker said their adult son was caught out driving and the tornado actually lifted his car up twice. He's apparently freaked out.

Of the folks who died, I know one young lady was taken by the tornado as she was running to safety at the police station that was hit. The dad of the valedictorian had just run up to restart the generator when his family in the basement looked up and saw the sky. The worst, imho, was the mother and 5 year old son who were killed when their house collapsed, while the father and young daughter were hospitalized. Tragic death and the ripping apart of a family. Horrible.

When I was younger I used to head outside during storms and look for tornadoes. I even went storm chasing a few times while in the service. As a get older I find myself a lot more nervous and ready to head for shelter. I don't know if it's more of an awareness of my own mortality or the fact that I now have folks depending on me, but while I still think tornadoes are beautiful wonders of nature, I have no desire to ever see one in action. (I have seen a handful of funnel clouds.)

A little update: I was looking at maps and pictures of the area, and just realized that the Millbury tornado touched down a mile south of my office. A co-worker lives about a mile and a half south. Her house was missed by this tornado, but was hit by a weaker and unreported tornado (confirmed by the NWS) about three or four weeks ago. Considering I work in a trailer, literally, finding out that there's a tornado landing zone just to the south is not a comforting thought.

Heard from more people today affected by this.
Going to have to build a bomb shelter for the wife. We have none. I slept thou most of it. She half slept in the hallway just enough so she could see Blizzard Bill on the TV. I figured there was no where to hide and if the good lord really wanted me it is time. I'm still here. Just long enough to still agitate all of you. Thank you Jesus thank and thank you ME. HEH!
