Obama wants to reduce the deficit and claims all options are on the table.

Ok, let's ignore the fact that Obama has spent more than any other president ever, and has single handedly double the deficit.

Which option do you think Obama and the Democratic controlled Congress will go with to reduce the deficit?

I think they'll do a lot of posturing about making tough cuts here and there, but in the end they'll have done little.

I also don't think they'd be stupid enough to raise taxes, unless they maintain control of Congress after the elections. I could see them quickly passing them at the end of November or right before the end of the year, and then hoping everyone forgets what they did before the next elections, which has been their official party strategy with health care.

And for some reason I fear that the Dems may do some 11th hour shit in October if they know they're going to lose a shit ton of seats.

Clarification: Obama has spent more money than every previous President combined.

I don't see how that is true/possible.

According to the news article we linked at the time, he did it within his first year.

He is correct. The article did indeed state that, and it's not the only time I've ever that said.

However, as much as I dislike Obama's spending, I'm with Catt on the "I don't see how that's possible."

Does anyone have any numbers on it?

Should be able to verify that at the OMB website, if it's true.

You mean the video of the debt car driving across the country? That was referring to only the deficit, not overall spending. The total debt accumulated according to those projections make it close that Obama is doubling pre-exisiting debt, but not quite.

Federal spending - historical

From 1970 to 2008 we spent 47 trillion $.

The budget for 2009 is $3.5 trillion. It'd take 13.42 years for that to equal the previous 38 years. And these are nominal dollars, not real/inflation-adjusted.

Oh, the debt car? Yeah, that was specifically about deficit spending, not overall.

Still bad, but not as bad.

A comedian on Comedy Central just now was making fun of Bush and his 8 trillion dollar debt. Obviously this was taped back when Bush was president.

I wonder what he thinks of Obama's debt. I'll bet it doesn't get mentioned in his act.
