The Invention of Lying

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

A great premise ruined by a love story.

Ricky Gervais lives in a world where nobody lies, which makes the first half of this film kind of funny. Suddenly, he discovers that he can lie to improve his lot in life by not telling the truth. Now he's rich and famous, but he doesn't have the girl he wants (Jennifer Garner).

Lots of cameos: Rob Lowe, Jason Bateman, Jeffery Tambor, Tina Fey, and some other people I don't remember at the moment.

The first half of the movie is entertaining, but after that it just gets sooooo slow. I think the creators realized they kind of trapped themselves a bit. Imagine if nobody lied except you. What would you do with that power? Well, Ricky does none of that. Ok, he does get some financial gain out of it, but nothing else. Hell, I know two of you who'd come home with doctors notes saying you must have sex with Salma Hayek or you'd die.

Overall, the movie was just flat and dull. Even the scene where he essentially invents religion could have been a lot funnier.

When it hits the dollar bins give it a shot, but even then you won't miss anything if you skip it.

4 out of 10.
