James Doohan's or DeForest Kelly's prop communicators could act circles around every DS9 cast member except Rene Auberjoinois & Armin Shimmerman. Everyone else had problems, either because their character was written badly (Dax) or they just couldn't act (Avery Brooks, Nana Visitor). And they needed Worf to save that series. TNG didn't add Walter Koenig to their last couple seasons in a desperate attempt get the TNG viewers that avoided DS9 like the creative plague it was.
DS9 is like the normal idiot that comes in right before the extra-short bus, Dumb & Dumber-style series known as Voyager. It looks good, but only by comparison.

I despised that pile of horrible acting (except a couple folk) and reprehensible writing.
My enjoyment of DS9 repeats was lessened when I learned that Avery Books was a punk ass racist in the truest sense of the word "nigga," and it killed the cast camaraderie off set.
