Law Abiding Citizen

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

2 dumbasses break into King Leonidas' home, kill and rape his wife, then kill his little girl. Madness ensues.

Now Gerard Butler is left with nothing, but a desire to fix the legal system. He does this by executing everyone involved in failing his wife and daughter. Jamie Fox is the DA tasked with stopping the killing spree.

Oh, and Gerard does this all from behind bars...

This movie is as good and bad as you'd expect.

The whole film is about ethics and our ridiculous justice system and how easily manipulated it is by lawyers and criminals.

The plot overall is interesting, but there are some massive, massive gaping holes in logic. I mean MASSIVE. If you stop to think about the film for even a second, the whole thing falls apart. I can't stress this enough. Either the writing was lazy or the director (or editor) completely screwed the pooch.

For example: The entire ending is a gaping hole in the plot. Not just because of one thing, but multiple things. Really.

Even if one were to argue that the complete reversal in someone's character in the final scene was him being "changed", it still doesn't explain the time line issues, nor does it get explained to the audience in a satisfactory manner. (Best I can do without spoilers.)

The acting is ok. Fox plays an arrogant prick perfectly, but Gerard kind of phones half the movie in. He's great in some scenes, and asleep in others.

I kept hearing how "gory" the film is, but I must have gotten a PG-13 cut because there wasn't any gore.

Overall, I love the concept, but this was a horribly executed movie. Rent it if you like the actors involved, but everyone else can skip it.

4 out of 10.

P.S. IMHO, Gerard let the first guy off lightly. I'm not kidding. I would have had him there for weeks.
