I've got the weirdest problem. My ethernet port on my mobo crapped out, so I installed a wifi PCI card I had lying around. But now when I try to access my server through the local network, my router resets. Have any of you ever heard of a wifi card accessing network resources causing the router to reset like that?
I can do everything else fine. And it never happened when I was connected via ethernet. Also, several laptops have been connected through wifi to my network and not caused this problem. It's freaky.
Weird Router Resets
Sorta. I have a Wireless-N router that I've had for a couple of years, and when I first got my previous work laptop, also wireless N, the performance would start of fine, then die within an hour or so. But talking to any other router, the laptop wireless was fine. Talking to any other wireless laptop, the router was fine.
It's not me, it's someone else.
Bad news: The resets started getting worse. It stopped being only when I accessed the server, and started being constant.
Good news: After uninstalling the wifi card, trying to install an old ethernet card and failing because it won't work with my 64-bit architecture, the ethernet port on the mobo is suddenly - and without any explanation - working again.
Maybe it's time to get a new system. *sigh*

I've seen ethernet ports act like that once. I had a server with dual ports and one day the active port decided to stop working. Swapped them and was good to go for months and then the new one stopped working.
I remembered the problem with the first one, but tried it anyway and it has worked ever since.

Yeah, it wasn't the cable. I tried several.
Sadly I'm stuck with this particular router, as it's ATT U-Verse's special router. I could make a subnet with something else, but it would be easier just to go buy something that will work with my 64-bit system. Which I guess I should have on hand for the next time this happens.
