My wife volunteered my time to her coworkers to give them free tech support.

She and I have already had words about this, it aint happening again... but I already have someone's PC on my desk with a note "please clean this up." Whatever that means.

So I just hooked it up and booted it up and it is Windows 98. Jesus. I would charge $50 to scratch and reload a system... but I wouldn't pay $50 for this entire computer.

I am just staring at it... I don't even know where to start. I don't think they make Spybot and AVG antivirus for Win98.

Uh. Pick what files need to be saved, then fdisk the rest. Isolate the saved files, scan them on an external or some shyte. Then tell them to get a real OS. Burn the info to a DVD.

I dont even feeling like doing that much. I cleared the internet cache and temp files, I am running defrag, THEN I am going to tell them to get a new system made in this decade.

Hey, remember SCANDISK? I didn't, either, but defrag said there were hard drive errors so I should run scandisk.

PCs running Windows 7 can be had for $500.

Tell them to buy a new one. If Microsoft won't support 98 anymore, why should you...for free?
