Look

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

An indy film shot entirely on surveillance cameras.

That's the claim anyway. I have a hunch that while it was shot from the perspective of surveillance cameras, a few of the cameras were not standard surveillance cameras. The picture was just too good at times.

Let me start off by saying that there is no story here. I'm sure the filmmaker would disagree, but a story has a beginning, middle, and end. This movie lacks all three.

Instead, this is simply surveillance video following different people. They do the Seinfeld thing and interweave, of course, but there is no overall storyline.

I really don't know what to make of this film.

It is inventive and the filmmaker should be given full credit for that. However, I don't really get the purpose.

As I said, there is no story. As for the characters, well, they're odd. Every character gets into an extreme situation, so it's hard to relate to any of them. On top of that, there really is no characterization whatsoever. You have no idea who these people are, what their motives are, or anything aside from a very, very brief snapshot of a single aspect of their life.

That makes it very hard to relate to anyone. You instead end up rooting for a person or an event and against others.

That might be exactly what the filmmaker intended though as there is one "twist" that I'm sure was meant to evoke a response from the audience. The problem is that it mostly fails. I expected something from this particular character, but he is so unlikeable that when his twist hit (and it wasn't what I was expecting) it didn't get any response from me.

The moment that did get me to emotionally respond had everything to do with me being a parent and not simply because I was this film's audience. That situation was also very badly portrayed because it essentially contradicted the entire film.

In fact, the entire statement of the film gets lost in these mini-stories they try to tell with the characters. Political statements are also made (social commentary, nature of man, etc.), but fall flat or contradict one another.

Overall, this was an extremely inventive film that does entertain, but not as smart as the people who made it think.

5 out of 10.
