A critical success, a financial failure.
Black Snake Moan tells the story of two flawed people whose paths cross and hilarity ensues.
Let's start with Christina Ricci whose boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, is going away to boot camp. Christina loves Justin, but she's got "the itch". That means when she needs to get fucked, she needs to get fucked and it doesn't matter by whom.
Samuel L. Jackson is a very religious farmer whose wife recently left him for his best friend (or brother I didn't really pick up on that).
Their paths cross thanks to the very unmanly actions of Justin's best friend and Samuel makes it his responsibility to "cure" Christina.
this wasn't a bad film, but it also wasn't as good as art house whore critics would have you believe. The acting is off the charts good and Christina is half naked the entire film, but the storyline is slow and doesn't resolve itself well at all.
If you're just a fan of Christina's feel free to rent it just for her. She's literally in a cut off, loose t-shirt and panties for 3/4 of the film. Her tits make several appearances, and she couldn't act more like a slut throughout.
Samuel, on the other hand, has traits of his former characters in this role, but he's more subdued and religious here. It was a bit different, but not wholly different, still he does a great job.
Even Justin is good here, although he wasn't especially good towards the end.
Overall, the film is very solid in terms of acting, but the writing falls flat. Everything goes great, outside of being slow, until about the last 20 minutes or so when the film really falls on its face. It's like the writer had this great idea, but then didn't know how to finish it. Some of the characters' stories resolved well enough, but as a sum of all the efforts, it just didn't feel right.
Still, it's worth a rental if only to watch "Wednesday" beg for cock.
6 out of 10.
