I use Phone Link that's built into Windows 10 to connect my Android phone.
I use this all of the time. I can answer/read texts. Pull pictures on/off the phone with click and drag. Add/remove files from folders. I can run apps in a virtual screen as well, but don't use this much.
I'm not sure you can connect Apple phones though. Too bad. This is VERY handy.

I just use messages.google.com for texting from my laptop.
Photos go to Google Cloud, so I can just pull them from there. Same with Google Drive.

That all can be done with Apple too. Just replace Google with Apple.
