Marriage Story (2019)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Marriage Story (2019)

Netflix

ScarJo and Kylo Ren are married, but going through a divorce. This film tracks the whole process.

This is a beautifully written, directed, and performed tragedy. ScarJo and Driver carry the movie and they ridiculously deliver. Of the Oscar Best Picture nominees I've seen (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Lighthouse, Joker, The Irishman, and Parasite) only Phoenix was better than Driver, and ScarJo should win outright. I would argue that ScarJo is in the top 5 best actors alive, and I'm pretty sure I could make the case for #1. These two absolutely ARE the people they play here. They completely suck you in with their performances and you will have emotions regarding their marriage and its dissolution.

The concept of divorce sucks, and this movie takes that and amplifies it up to 1000. Their specific situation was clearly done to make this easier for the writer to showcase how much divorce can suck. Laura Dern, Ray Liotta, and Alan Alda all show up as divorce lawyers and each represents something different, but the same. I don't want to spoil things, but this movie really shows how our family legal system is broken.

This was an excellent movie.

Laura Dern got the Best Supporting Actress win for this film.

ScarJo not winning Best Actress is a crime. Zellweger winning for the boring as fuck Judy must be them making amends for her not winning previously.
