Henry the V is a reluctant heir to the throne, who, spoiler alert, becomes king. I never really know what to expect on historical fiction. Like how close to reality are they going to play it? We already know he becomes king. We know who he marries. We know what happens at Agincourt. So how do you make that interesting? How close to the plays? The King is a 2019 historical drama film based on several plays from William Shakespeare's "Henriad".[4][5][6] It is directed by David Michôd, written by Michôd and Joel Edgerton, and stars Timothée Chalamet, Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris, Lily-Rose Depp, Robert Pattinson, and Ben Mendelsohn.
It had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on 2 September 2019 and was released on 11 October 2019 in selected theatres before being put up for digital streaming on 1 November 2019 by Netflix.
This movie is a condensed version of (most of) Henry's reign, compressing several years (similarly to the play) into an overly long 2+ hours. The characters are established, but do you care? I had problems caring. The ending is mildly (imho) telegraphed in the early middle of the movie.
The ending, is original, not coming from the play as I remember it (but it's been a long time). And really delivers about the only payoff in the entire movie.

Oh, and Tommen dies again.
