Rocky Balboa

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Trailer

After watching the trailer, and I can't believe I'm saying this, it has a chance of not completely sucking. I really like how they aren't ignoring the age thing and are instead turning it into a plot device and a source of humor.

I think that was called real life.

Rocky 5 when he fought Tommy Gunn (Morrison in real life. I'm pretty sure he has AIDS or HIV and that ended his boxing career.).

The story was that Rocky couldn't take many more shots to the head. Apparently, he got better.

Let's see how forgiving everyone is when Die Hard 4, Rambo IV, Highlander 5, & Indiana Jones 4 come out. I'm waiting for a Terminator IV announcement at this fucking point. I wouldn't be surprised if Donale Pleasance rose from the dead to star in the new Halloween flick.

Eh. Sequels can be fine if they're done correctly. If the story and characters throughout a series of films are consistent and interesting, what's the problem?

I snickered at Rocky 6 and Rambo 4 when they were announced. Upon seeing the trailer I thought it had a chance of not completely sucking. That doesn't mean I'll be entralled watching a "realistic" story about an 80 year old man beating up men in their prime.

Die Hard 4 and Indy 4 don't bug me too much. The Indy series has been pretty faithful with the characters. Die Hard's been shakier, but Bruce Willis is always entertaining.

Highlander 5 will suck. They fucked that series up after #1.

Oh, and bad news, Terminator 4 has been discussed since before Terminator 3 hit theaters.

I'm cautiously optimistic w\ an elderly Harrison Ford fighting off someone that isn't a Nazi. Remember the last Indy film w\o Nazis?

1. What's the last good movie that was released, and not a sequel? Kill Bills?

2. I won't go see the next Rambo if he's fighting "white supremicists." Y'all know that's one of my peeves.

I predict that Rocky will die at the end of "Rocky Balboa."
The final scene will be either his grave or his memorial statue... probably the statue.

It'll be some sort of social commentary on the self destructive need to prove one's self despite the inevitable negative outcome (or something like that).

Too political and since you said "mayhaps" it probably wouldn't be considered great.

Also, what are we talking about here? We're saying no remakes or sequels right? What about new films staring familiar characters? What about films based on comics or TV that might have been done previous, but have been redone, but aren't considered remakes (like Spiderman)?

Oh, "Sin City" was kick ass and that's recent. Based on a comic, but had never been made into a movie before.

Hmm, no remakes or sequels, definately.

Based on books/comic books?

For the sake of this thread derail, no movies based on books or comic books. A good movie should be good in its own right, not because the book had a following.

So a completely fresh new idea for a recent Guy Movie that turned out to be great?

Hmmmmm ... nothing comes to mind. There's been plenty of fresh new ideas for Chick Flicks that are hailed as great, but all they good Guy Movies I can think of are derivitive to one degree or another.
