Yay Netflix!
Note: I have yet to watch the original Japanese anime, but it's in my Netflix queue.
This film is getting destroyed by fans of the original and ranks a 4.7 on IMDB. Not good.
Basically, a kid finds (it drops out of the sky to him) a book where if he writes a person's name in it, they die.
While I was entertained by this film, I get why it's getting panned. The acting is shit, nothing is really explained well, reality is stretched as far as possible, etc.
I'm sure you're teenager will love it (if they don't know about the source material), but while it's entertaining because the concept is cool, it's not well executed.
If you don't know about the source material or you don't give a fuck, watch it. It should also entertain you. I look forward to watching the original now and then comparing it to this film.

Death Note (Live Action)
This movie is an abomination. The anime is superior in every way.
