Farcry and Doom 3 *with spoilers* - *spoilers* Turned into a spoiler thread
*******READ THIS BEFORE READING THIS CHAIN*********
This is Leisher breaking into Troy's message as his is the first in this chain. This chain is FULL of spoilers for Doom 3, so if you want to go in fresh, don't read any further.
*************************************************
Well i have had a chance to load an play two of the newst games out there for the first time on the new rig... and without a doubt... Farcry > Doom3
Enemy AI, graphics, weapons, pretty much everything i can think of is dominated by Farcry, the production values on Doom makes for a scary ride, but once you get past that, their isnt much underneath. You can only have the lights turned out on you so many times and zombies to come breathing down your neck before it starts to get repetitive. You can't overclock your video card while playing doom 3 either, i had a problem where, when i overclocked the card, i could see the triggers... like where I could move to make guys jump out of walls and explosions to occur.
I'm no saying i think that Doom 3 is a bad game, I am really enjoying the creepiness, just that Farcry is the best shooter this year unless Half Life 2 can really raise the bar...

With my machine, Doom3 looks twice as pretty as Farcry. I actually put Farcry aside until when I have a faster machine because I had to turn the graphics down so far to get good gameplay. And that sucks. But Doom3 on medium graphics still gives me the best looking game I ever played.

I'm reserving my judgements on which is prettier until I actually see an outdoor or open environment in Doom 3.
By the way, you need to score 25,000 in Super Turkey Puncher 3.

Crap, what happens?
You get a funny little email.
Cracked me up that 75% of the peeps wo play D3 wont have a clue what they're looking at in "Turkey Puncher."
I thought that too.

Did you go into the bathroom (the one near the kitchen and Turkey Puncher) after the "event"?

Yeah. That was pretty cool, especially when you consider the message being broadcast outside right before you enter.
I'm standing at the Alpha Labs door. Let me know if there are any other little details like that one that I shouldn't miss.
I do know from a mag that there's some secret right before the final cutscene, but I don't remember the details off hand.

So far, I'd say Doom 3 has the scariest atmosphere I've ever seen/heard in a game. It does work against itself though.
For example: You'll hear a zombie moaning when entering a room, and you know he's going to be in some corner out of view. I like that, but they do it too much. There's no fear factor in that anymore. Resident Evil handled its zombies much better, but I think they were able to get away with more due to the camera angles.
I do like the random audio transmissions you receive, especially when the "event" first took place and everything was going to shit.

From the pictures those things look like they're right out of the infirmary scene in The Thing (80s version). Can't wait to meet 'em.

I wish I could erase it from my brain and watch it again for the first time.
First one to invent that device gets to be a gazillionaire.

I thought that after I wrote it last night...Leisher wrote:I wish I could erase it from my brain and watch it again for the first time.

how about a new medium of projecting entertainment to your brain? Today this is done with light and images, with your eyes and ears as input. These images and sounds are stored (for some people) in long term memory, which eliminates the feeling of "newness" in subsequent viewings.
How about "Memento-Vision?" A different method of delivering the medium is devised that will stick in your brain for a day or 2, but avoids long-term memory storage.
Or how about a drug you take before the movie that blocks the creation of long-term memory?
I can be really dangerous when I start thinking.
In Futurama, corporations broadcast ads into people's dreams. That would suck.
Also, I notice you're focusing your product on movies. The real market is going to be erasing memories from people's everyday lives. Think about it, no more guilt after getting drunk and sleeping with someone you normally wouldn't.

I don't think film companies would want to use it. These days a huge chunk of the income from films are from merchandizing of toys and shirts and sheets and whatever else they can think of to put the characters on. That's hard to do when the kids are saying "What's a Pokemon?" two days after they watch the movie.

Back to the topic at hand:
As its probably become aware, I've only been playing sporatically due to being busy and playing other games.
Well today I met the "dog". Awesome.
