D-War - AKA: Dragon Wars
Looks to be a real flick.
Notice the warehouse manager from The Office is in it?

I went w\ my buddy to see "Mirrormask." He was really excited about it cos, "No one cares about good fantasy movies anymore." I replied, "Maybe they just haven't made enough decent ones for anyone to care." Lo & behold, "Mirrormask" turned out to be subpar. Damn, I'm tired of being right.Lord of the Rings sure opened the door to fantasy in Hollywood.
Prediction: anything but an R rating will suck.

1. Rated PG-13.... see my prediction, above.
2. If the cgi already looks sucky in a tiny internet video, won't it suck harder on a big screen?

No, but shit can spread thru the net at an irregular rate.GORDON wrote:3. Also, it opens in less than a month... has anyone seen any marketing for this, outside of the internet?

The trailer doesn't look half-bad.
However, a September release with no marketing...that screams "box office bomb".

Here's a clip.

I have a feeling the clip is deceiving, because it doesn't show wackiness. Judging by the trailer that was already released this movie contains wackiness, and that's why my early call is that it will suck.

I think G4 & Sci-Fi have been pushing the trailer for this film. G4 seems particularly heavy. This is a niche nerd film, & I believe they know it.GORDON wrote:3. Also, it opens in less than a month... has anyone seen any marketing for this, outside of the internet?

I have no idea who the hell this film was targeted to appeal to, but it certainly isn't females of any age, adults, teens, or kids. Maybe that's why it was a fall release and a box office bomb.
The story is cliche overkill involving some ancient dragons (the Chinese kind, NOT the English type), one evil and one good, that battle for dominion over man and blah blah blah. Every 500 years some hotchie is born with a dragon birthmark and at the age of 20, she is the key in a fight between the two factions with the winner getting their way.
The writing only gets worse from there.
Worse yet is the direction. Everything is just scattered and random. Some shots take too long and the pacing of the film is horrible at best.
The actors don't do the film any favors either. From the Tom Cruise imitating male lead to the overacting female lead and supporting cast, nobody puts in even a mediocre performance.
Too violent for most women and all kids, too childish to appeal to adults, and too stupid, boring, and cheesy to appeal to men, this film is for nobody.
It does have some nice special effects though. Some.
2 out of 10.

You see, if you include dragons into the realm of possibility, even I think I could write a 5/10 script. Seriously, if you give me dragons, I could pull some entertaining shyte. & I fucking know there are writers more competent & imaginative than I.

Just wanted to point out this observation from 2 years ago. There's been a shitload of fantasy movies out there... and almost all of them involve a "young child who finds out they fulfill a prophecy/have a destiny." Be great if more of it were geared toward grownups. Ambiguous moral decisions and such instead of "you were destined to be the last dragon rider." Yawn.GORDON wrote:Lord of the Rings sure opened the door to fantasy in Hollywood.

Marybe Dragonslayer?
But you're right, these movies are mostly geared toward kids, which is also what I said a few posts back, so I'm right too.
But the big one, LotR, was not a movie just for kids, a point that has been lost in most of these new ones. Wasn't a single child in the extensive cast of main characters, in fact.
