PUBG: PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Post by TheCatt »

Apparently crazy popular - 4 million sales @ $30/each
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, or PUBG for short, is a unicorn. It's an unfinished mess of a shooter with no tutorials and a bunch of game-breaking bugs. And yet, it's so nail-bitingly immersive that 4 million people have shelled out $30 a pop in just three months.

Basically, you and 99 other players parachute onto an island filled with deadly weaponry, and fight to the death. If you're the last person standing, you win
....

Like the crazy traps in "The Hunger Games" and the explosive collars in Battle Royale, the ever-shrinking zapfield is what keeps the action moving -- so players don't all just set up camp and wait for foes to stumble into their crosshairs.
It's like a fast version of Rust.

I'm guessing Stranger plays it already.
It's not me, it's someone else.

I've been doing other distractions or traveling a lot lately. Been reading or playing live poker more than PC games. That 2% chance is right on in this case. I've watched a bunch of cool videos on Youtube of this game though. And a few have popped up on my reddit feeds as well. It reminds me of that Rust mode that had similar rules.

I'm in western NC with the wife's family this week dealing with some health issues. Back in SF next week. If ya'll are multi-ing a game like this, I'm down.

I'll post here if we do.

Good luck with those health issues.

For some reason I've really been getting more and more curious about this game. If it goes on sale during the holiday Steam sale, it's getting bought.

About to ban 100K cheaters.

They've already banned more than 300K since launching.

This is the biggest reason I won't buy this game. The cheating is way out of control.

Ditto for Stream Sniping Reports. Not so much that people are doing it, but if a streamers reports anyone, they get banned. Proof be damned. That's fucked up.

1 million players banned in January.

Why do people play this game?

Latest attempt to stop cheating resulted in random players being banned. A fix is on the way.

PUBG is going to be a "don't" example in game development classes in the future.

I don’t see anyone that streams it ever doing well. It’s like a long plane scene involving everyone parachuting out, followed by the entire squad getting shot 15 seconds after getting on to the map.

Pro team forfeits $12,000 prize for cheating.

The "cheat" was one of them using a bug to see through a wall, and although it led to no tactical info, it's still a cheat.

Get that? A game known for cheaters had to punish a team in its official tournament due to cheating, which was really them simply using an existing bug/glitch.

Fuck this game.

Popular streamer banned for playing with a cheater. The actual cheater wasn't banned.

Fuck PUBG. They clearly only care about cash and not the player experience.

13 million accounts banned for cheating since mid-2017.

Why would anyone not cheating play that game?
