Roger Corman's Death Race 2050

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Yay Netflix!

Yes, there's boobs. Shockingly, no giant fun bags. I thought Corman liked 'em big?

This movie is as bad and good as you can imagine. This is a B movie from the word go. The special effects are hilariously bad. Like "Kitty Danger" levels of bad. The atmosphere, cars, outfits, etc. are right out of the 60s.

Lots of political messages, although they're mainly in the beginning. In fact, the first 10 minutes is basically a condemnation of corporate America, commercialization, American excess, etc. This theme continues throughout, but it's not as condensed and obvious as this opening scene.

Unlike previous Death Race movies, there's a ton of humor here. Some is good, most is shockingly non-PC. I say "shocking" because I would have assumed this was made by a liberal mind? Watch the first part and you'll see what I mean. For example: There's a black character uttering racial slurs for white people throughout most of the film. (They twist you later to make a political statement.)

The violence is right out of most B movies. Mostly just explosions of gore, but old school stuff. So don't expect anything to be realistic.

This is a perfect B movie. You've got tits, bad acting, a story that makes no sense, action, violence, humor, props and sets from decades ago, bad special effects, and Malcolm McDowell.

Special shout out to Marci Miller who genuinely seemed to be trying.

I just saw the first one of these, Death Race 2000. It was... OK. Cheesy gore, cheesy plot, a touch of tragedy. I feel like 2050 is almost the same movie, based on Leisher's description.

I haven't seen Death Race 2000 since I was 16, had a license, and was renting 3 old movies at a time for $1.97 from The Video Connection getting all caught up on old scifi.

They're all the same movie. It's just about the tone. For example the one with Statham is played for drama. The Corman one is played up for camp.
The Video Connection
I used to work there.

Could have used more tits. And yes, Marci did seem to be trying in a world where few others were. Needed more boobs.
