Saw II - Spoilers.

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

(I searched for another thread but didn't see one.)

Saw was an original take on the horror suspense genre and was entertaining despite the wooden acting and stupid unveiling of the man behind Jigsaw.

Saw II is just an attempt to cash in.

In this sequel, Jigsaw plays a game with a cop and puts several people into a house of traps including the cop's son. The people have to work together to save themselves, but being scumbags and humans, it just doesn't work out that way.

There is nothing inventive about this film as opposed to the original Saw. Each death is very boring and can be seen coming from about a mile away. In fact, one of the deaths (Obi) made zero sense when put with the overall theme and storyline of Jigsaw.

Jigsaw's motive is supposed to be about giving people a chance to redeem themselves through suffering and pain. Yet one of his traps intentionally kills the person. (One actually does earlier as well, but that person broke the rules.) without spoiling anything, Jigsaw's motive really goes out the window later in the film.

Also, the twist is obvious from the moment the house is first shown. It's too soon in the series to be pulling this sort of crap.

Overall, it's ok to watch I guess, but nowhere near the original. Here's hoping part three gets written by someone with an IQ above 70.

3 out of 10.

Obi had a chance to redeem himself through pain... you could see a valve on the wall over the fire with a devil pointing at it. Obi did not go for it.

The syringe pit may have been the worst thing I've ever seen in a movie.

What about Kathy Bates' full frontal in "About Schmidt"?

Re-watched this one last night. It still sucked.

Just a poorly written mess.

The actual game Jigsaw plays with the cop is fine (although the police procedures around it are stupid), but everything that takes place in the house is terrible.

The entire concept of the house went against Jigsaw's redemption plan. There was no redemption through pain. They were all poisoned, then told to work together, given stupid hints, and aside from the trap that killed Obi, none of the traps were forced upon them. In fact, most of them died by their own or each other's hands. And leaving the picture of the kid and his dad, what exactly was the point of that? Where was his redemption and what was his crime? Was he supposed to suffer because of his dad's crimes? What if they had found that photo almost immediately and killed him?

Also, say hello to continuity problems. When Cary Elwes leaves the room from the first one the door is open and there's a wall on the other side forcing him to go to the left. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was a warehouse or plant of some sort because Zep was shown walking around outside the room. In this one, the cop enters a tunnel from the house which leads him to that same. This time there's a huge hallway from the open door view.
