Self-driving trucks would put out of work millions of people, who cannot do anything else. They can earn a decent middle class life today, and it's gone in 10-20 years.

They've got 10-20 years to figure out a new skill. My industry is inherently learning new shit over and over and over again. You cannot freeze technological progress nor will you be able to force the corps to play ball and pay expensive, error-prone humans who get sick and need medical leave, vacations, ad nauseum. The horse is out of the barn and the roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. People have to be ready, willing, and able to learn new shit. Evolution says so, natural selection says so, economics says so.

Not that your ego needs more inflating, but how much do you think you are more capable of that than the average person? You cannot just think of yourself. (Maybe you can, I argue one cannot morally).

That's the nature of a fundamental shift in the basic underpinning of the world economy. These people are going to have to face the same problems that all the family farmers had to deal with in the last century. But like that there will be some other way for them to make a living, it's just too soon to know exactly what the equivalent of factory jobs is going to be once the dust has settled. My money is on everyone becoming artists, musicians, actors, writers, and other types of entertainers; I suspect the coming economy will completely smash the traditional publishing industries and the final result will be an economy that is able to support all those creative endeavors (or at least an economy that provides the basics of food, shelter, and utilities to everyone without employment and encourages further enrichment beyond the basics mostly through creating and "selling" content).

Regardless, there's a fundamental shift coming that will leave a lot of people very confused and angry, yes. But their only choice is to adapt or smash the system so hard that we go back to all being farmers to survive.

I found the headline for that link funny though. "He thought Trayvon's killing was justified". What it implies is the "public shaming" that's a favorite tactic of the left. Read his statement though and you'll see he based that opinion on what he's read about the case, yet still called Zimmerman a piece of shit.
