Until her son's willing to look after her, that's not going to be much use. You might want to inform her of that. Anyhow, this is mainly on your wife seeing as how she's the only offspring that gives half a fuck.
BTW she bought ice cream, a half gallon of "moose tracks" which has the extra fudge and caramel in it.
GODDAMN. That would last me over a year. I could easily see one and a half or two unless I let myself go.

Left to her own devices she could easily go through a half gallon in two days.

Before she moved in I was trying to get her straightened out, and I was taking her grocery shopping.... she put 4 half-gallon of ice cream into her cart. I mentioned it, and she said, "Oh, this will last me two months." So two weeks later we are shopping again, and there's another 2 gallons of ice cream. So yeah. Liar.

Throw it out. See if she remembers buying it.

Was planning on it... tomorrow.

Maybe tonight after she takes her pills.

Blood sugar 250 tonight, btw. No idea what she ate all day, aside from ice cream.

To her credit, that is considered by many to be the Cadillac of ice creams.

Really important pro tip here: After you open ice cream put it into a ziplock bag before putting it back in the freezer. This will keep it creamy and prevent it from getting ice burn.

Or, having a decent freezer.

There are different types of freezing?

Malcolm says a half gallon would last him a year. No way does ice cream stay creamy or without ice crystals for that long in any freezer.

Air temp consistency is one of the causes of freezer burn, so yes.

Frostless freezers cycle the temps every day.... I don't get ice crystals on old ice cream, but it does get that crust of yuck over it, over time.

I should qualify that statement, as it's a purely theoretical estimate.

1) I usually don't have any in my freezer.
2) Every once in a blue moon when I want something like that, I walk a block to Dairy Queen.
3) Every leap ice age, when I want to buy in massive bulk quantities, I'll get a pint from the grocery store or pub.

Correct. That's why ice trays evaporate over time in a frost free freezer. Freezer comes up to just above freezing and a dehumidifier to melt off frost and remove moisture.

Ice cream generally doesn't last that long in our freezer.

Aimed at whoever thinks it's to them...

Just wrap the fucking ice cream in a ziplock and shut the fuck up Neil Degrasse Tyson.

If ice cream lasts long enough to need to be in a baggy, just give it up already.

I threw out her half gallon, today. DOn't know if she's noticed yet, or even remembered it was there.

Got advice from a paramedic friend today.... next time her blood sugar is north of 300, take her to the emergency room and have her admitted, and there's a process whereby we could have her confined to a nursing home for 30-100 days to get her back on track. Not really sure how.

Because 300 is life-threateningly high. It's the same as if someone's gone senile and is drinking bleach on the sly. They recognize that professional* help is needed.

The one she got sentenced to last time for a month was great... it's nice and clean, and expensive, and she can't afford it unless medicare is paying for it. And she hated it because they forced her to eat a diabetic patient's diet, and she couldn't have her cat.

The actual invalids that were there kept asking me why she was in, she was so young and was able to walk on her own and stuff. I just said she was lazy and stupid and unwilling to take care of herself.

I'd like to see her there again, as a reminder.
