Maybe there's a plan to use the wall they will be building as a jobs program for Mexico?

Mexico's wonderful outside all the crime-related deaths, and muggings, and kidnappings.

The king of Spain lived a bajillion miles away and by the time that country lost its political and military preeminence, his majesty's subjects overseas ignored his proclamations, laws, etc. If you want to talk the last time Mexico was really kicking ass, you'd have to go back to the Aztecs.

Highlights from Herr Trump's immigration speech in Phoenix:
He declared that he will build a “Great Wall.” (“On day one, we will begin working on an impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful southern border wall.”)

He insisted “Mexico will pay” for it: “One-hundred percent. They don’t know it yet, but they’re going to pay for the wall.”

He suggested that he’d like to deport his opponent. “Maybe they’ll be able to deport her.”

He said Dwight Eisenhower’s “Operation Wetback” did not go far enough. (He name-checked Ike but did not say what the strategy was called.)

He reiterated that he will indeed create “a deportation task force” and promised to deport two million “criminal aliens” starting on “day one.”

He said undocumented immigrants seeking legal status would first have to leave the country and try to return lawfully. “There will be no amnesty,” he said. “You cannot obtain legal status or become a citizen of the United States by illegally entering our country. Can't do it. ... Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation." He did not use the term "self-deportation," but that's exactly what he called for: "You can call it ‘deport’ if you want. The press doesn't like that term. You can call it whatever the hell you want."

He claimed “countless Americans” are “victims of violence” by illegal immigrants who are “dangerous, dangerous, dangerous criminals”: “We will issue detainers for illegal immigrants arrested for any crime whatsoever.”

Just in case he hasn't pissed off the rank and file elders quite enough...
Republican Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence reacted to the FBI's notes on its interview with Hillary Clinton by calling her "the most dishonest candidate for President of the United States since Richard Nixon" in an exclusive interview on NBC's "Meet the Press."
Remember when Trump criticized his running mates for drinking from the devil's fountain that is PAC money?
This week, Trump announced he hired the man whose activism literally led to the creation of super PACs, and whose most recent gig was leading a pro-Trump super PAC.

Ben Carson's baffling speech. I'm going to start calling him Alan Keyes, Jr.
Mr. Carson said Mr. Trump planned to revitalize communities across the country by requiring corporations holding an estimated $2.1 trillion in untaxed profits overseas to invest 10% of their repatriated earnings into “enterprise zones” and job-creating investments for the unemployed, underemployed and welfare recipients.

“That would be the biggest stimulus since FDR’s New Deal, and it wouldn’t cost the taxpayers one penny,” he said, referring to former President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Are you trying to sell Trump to black voters by comparing his economic policies to Depression-era spendocrat FDR ... and furthermore trying to convince people it's free?

To be fair, a lot of folks think FDR was awesome and the New Deal was great. Also, most voters don't really give a fuck who is paying the bills as long as it's not them.

You can't make this up.
"I think it's inarguable that Vladimir Putin has been a stronger leader in his country than Barack Obama has been in this country. And that's going to change the day that Donald Trump becomes president," Pence said.

Because they're smart enough to know that when you do things like that, investigators can trace the radioactive materials back to the reactors from whence they came. They also know they can't stonewall international investigators like Putin has and continues to be able to do.

"Trump Support Among Latinos Continues to Slide." I assume this means he's losing votes among Hispanic folk from other countries because I didn't know he had any left in this one.

No, I think it means that his one Hispanic voter wants to keep riding the slide instead of letting the other kids on the playground have their turns.

Dear god, I'm not sure what to make of this hodgepodge of bullshit and vague statements.
"There is still much that needs to be investigated in the field of climate change. Perhaps the best use of our limited financial resources should be in dealing with making sure that every person in the world has clean water. Perhaps we should focus on eliminating lingering diseases around the world like malaria. Perhaps we should focus on efforts to increase food production to keep pace with an ever-growing world population. Perhaps we should be focused on developing energy sources and power production that alleviates the need for dependence on fossil fuels. We must decide on how best to proceed so that we can make lives better, safer and more prosperous.
- More investigation? Sure, why not.

- Access to clean water? Fighting malaria? Increase food production? We already do that shit in the US rather well. If you're talking worldwide, these things are virtually impossible to do without stable governments in place to make sure infrastructure doesn't go to shit. You want water? Invest in pipes.

- Developing energy sources that alleviate the need for fossil fuels. Unless you're willing to admit burning through that shit like weed at Woodstock has some negative consequences, there's no reason to call for this.

The only thing stupid he said was "increase food production." I don't think he knows we already feed half the world.

I'm wondering how he reconciles the "we need more investigation" with "we need to reduce fossil fuel usage." They do not jive.

"Investigating" global warming wont amount to shit, anyway.

Sure, invest heavily in solar and wind... it will make energy cost more but that hurts the poor the most so who cares, and it will position us to be in good shape if there is a real or artificial shortage of fossil fuels in the future. But you aren't going to make China and the rest of Asia do shit about shit, and they are the main pollution problem.
