Bots?

Post by Leisher »

About an hour ago in the Registered Users list the following were listed as being logged in: Google [bot] and Yahoo [bot].

What's that about?

I'm not sure. There's a section in the Admin control panel about bots and I think blocking them, but I didn't look into it very much. If Catt doesn't know offhand, it may be something to google about.

So the board can ID them but not stop them? Does that last bit cost extra?

It may be that there's default read-only accounts for bots to use to scan the public boards using the "unread" page. It means less scanning to get any new posts cataloged for search, which saves bandwidth. If phpBB is popular enough that might be a thing the search companies would go along with and code for.
