Will not be attended by various folk not up for an award.
Saying he was tired of being asked for his opinion about all-white or majority-white Oscar races year after year, Mr. Lee also urged the news media to “ask all the white nominees and studio heads how they feel about another all-white ballot.”
“Should people of color refrain from participating all together?” Ms Pinkett Smith wrote on her Facebook account on Saturday, “People can only treat us in the way in which we allow.”
Meanwhile, Chris Rock is set to host.

Diogenes of Sinope: "It is not that I am mad, it is only that my head is different from yours."
Arnold Judas Rimmer, BSC, SSC: "Better dead than smeg."
I've been hearing this a lot, and I have a few questions that I haven't seen answered:
1. Who got snubbed? What actor, actress, or director got snubbed that should have been nominated this year?
2. What's the long term solution? Since it's impossible to both always nominate a black person for each category AND declare the nominations to be based on merit, what is a solution that makes everyone happy?
“Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole.” - Dr Thomas Sowell
The main rumbling I hear is from Will Smith fanbois and his Concussion performance. I've called that film Oscarbait more than once.

I've heard mostly jeers for that film.
Can you nominate someone for a film that was critical of football where the NFL was a part of the creative process (really)?
I would have allowed an argument for Michael B. Jordan in Creed.

Jabba the Hutt joins boycott. Because his shit isn't getting nominated any time soon.
Director Michael Moore said on Tuesday he would join the boycott, along with Jada Pinkett-Smith, the actress wife of snubbed "Concussion" star Will Smith.
Janet Hubert, best known for her role on 1990s TV comedy show "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," accused the Smiths of hypocrisy, saying they have made "millions and millions of dollars from the very people that you're talking about boycotting just because you didn't get a nomination."
"You have a huge production company that you only produce your friends and family and yourself. So you are a part of Hollywood, you are part of the system that is unfair to other actors. So get real," Hubert added in a YouTube video.

"I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living and has made millions and millions of dollars from the very people that you're talking about boycotting just because you didn't get a nomination, just because you didn't win?" she continued. "That's not the way life works, baby."

She, figuratively, just got knocked the fuck out.

Reverend Al jumps on the race baiting bandwagon. However, I do like the subtle Spike Lee slam...
The "Do the Right Thing" director, who received an honorary Oscar in November, posted an Instagram message that he and his wife would not be attending the most important night in the industry.
Let's go over his best fiction directing hits:

'89: Do the Right Thing
'91: Jungle Fever
'92: Malcolm X

Spike's the dude that did the American remake of Oldboy and couldn't make $5M with a $30M budget. He hasn't put out an original screenplay worth seeing in over a decade. Who gives a fuck what he thinks?

So I’m not going to boycott, but I’m going to continue to bitch as I have all year round because I’m tired of seeing movies where no one is represented except a bit of the population, not all of it.

Does she know that black people are only around 13% of the population? Hispanic people are 20-30%. Whitey is the vast majority of the rest.

“I think it’s ludicrous,” Dash said on Wednesday’s “Fox & Friends” when asked about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. “We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, then we have to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” she continued. “If it were the other way around, we’d be up in arms. It’s a double standard. There shouldn’t be a black history month. We’re Americans, period."

Gibson suggested that if the situation hypothetically involved underrepresentation of LGBT individuals, and Rock was gay, he would have stepped down.
"If they purposefully left out all homosexuals and gays from being nominated for an Oscar if the host Chris Rock was a homosexual, he would have stepped down already," he said.

"This whole Oscar controversy isn't really about the Oscars," Pinkett Smith, 44, said in a new video shared by Entertainment Tonight. "Really, in my plea to ask all communities and people of color to take back our power is so that we can use it in all sectors of our community, and right now, specifically with African-American people, we have some very serious issues that I think we as a people have to move together on."
