My kid just turned 10, and suddenly it hit me that he is getting old enough to do fun things. When I was a teen my divorced bio-father had me down to his place in Florida a few years in a row, a couple weeks each time, and he taught me how to scuba dive. He was a master diver, at the time he was a rescue diver at NASA (and he was there the day the Challenger blew up), so I never needed to get certified.... but now I'm gonna.

After the first of the year my kid and I are going to get our book-learning materials, and do that... then in March we will be doing our indoor-swimming pool checkout dives, then in May we will be hitting a cold-ass quarry for two days to do our "open water" checkout dives.

THEN, in June my kid is going to Huntsville, Alabama for Space Camp, and assuming Jinx doesn't screw up and launch him on the space shuttle, he and I, alone, will be spending the next 10 days tooling around Florida diving in the various springs where I learned to dive. I'm not taking him out into the ocean currents for a few years... sometimes they push hard and I want him to be a little bigger and stronger and able to fight them before we do that.... but I am already contemplating Bahamas dive excursions, an a few years, where you live on the boat for a week straight and to 7 dives a day. :-D

But yeah, I actually have something I am excited to do. I started training hard, lifting and dieting, to get stronger and lose weight, down 10 pounds in the last month, and feeling pretty good. Feeling motivated.

Anyway, I hope this makes y'all feel slightly more pathetic about your own lame lives. You're welcome.

If he has learned from you at all, he'll wait until you're both in deep water then cut your air tube and take his rightful place as head of the family.

Ha!

He has many more years in which I will let him leech off my money, though, so if he is truly smart he will bide his time and grow stronger before he challenges me for dominance.

He already knows Firefly sucked. I think it's his time now.

BTW, just because I'm better than you, I've lost 15 pounds in the last month.

Suck it, bitch!

YOU are the one who will be sucking it!

My goal is 205 by March. That's about 30 pounds of fat and gaining probably 10 of muscle.

I have no immediate goals. But I'd like to get to a weight and maintain it. I keep gaining back portions.

I started rock climbing, and lifting weights (simple routines for now) to get back into it.

Your trip does sound awesome. I miss diving. My wife gets ear problems, and doesn't love it.
It's not me, it's someone else.

What a cool thing to do, Gordon.

I have done the live-aboard boat thing, and if you like diving, it is the way to go. Eat, sleep, dive.
