They are promoting a new Italian Sausage sub, so I took advantage of my day off from my "diet" and got one.

Mistake.

The sausage can be compared to balsa wood in both flavor and texture.

By far, one of the driest pieces of meat to ever be put onto a sandwich.

Subway is hurting despite having more locations than any other restaurant chain.

They will redesign stores and change their menu.

Makes sense. The place where you are told to "Eat Fresh" has the stalest menu and look.

I've seen them as the weakest of sandwich options for many years now, only worth visiting if there is no Quiznos, Penn Station, Firehouse, or Jersey Mikes nearby.

I've never had Jimmy Johns so can't speak to that.

Quiznos is OK, but only if it gets enough traffic, else the food is stale and awful.

Penn/Firehouse/Jersey Mikes/JJ are pretty much the same boring thing.

Subway is slightly worse.

Fuck Subway. That's not the word or image I want in my mind while eating. That's not even touching the biological crimes these fuckers call "food."

Quizno's Chicken Carbonara is goddamn delicious.

It's also gotta be the least healthy sandwich at any of the sandwich joints. Still good.

I still need someone to explain why Quizno's used a dead mouse as their ad personality for years.

Asked for comment a Quizno's rep said:

"OUR mouse is dead!

Subway's rat? That fucker is still alive, shitting in their bread and cheese nightly."

Subway is better than Quiznos. But only because Quiznos is awful, not because Subway is good.

Do you have Potbelly in Toledo? I ate there a few times and was quite happy with my meal (and complimentary hot peppers).

Of course I ate at one near campus, so everything was fresh.

Yeah, there's one near Franklin Park Mall. It's in a tough area for restaurants. It shares the strip with a Cold Stone Creamery, Aladdin's (Mediterranean fare...good, but overpriced), a LEGIT Asian restaurant (the ingredients will make you gag and you can cook them at the table), there's a Chick-Fil-A right next to it, a Zoup right behind it, and a Panera on the far end. That's not mentioning the more than a dozen other restaurants within one block.

I've eaten there once, and it was meh for me. I like Zoup better. Mainly because I like soup, and they make a strong Turkey sandwich.

It's only legit if there are 25% or fewer people working there that can speak English.

Then it's legit.

Interesting. There was a place on campus I used to hit that was like that. It's one of the few survivors that's still there today after the streets were gutted, redone, and had a light rail system slammed down the middle. Then the high rises went up. Always helps going in if you have a couple Asian dudes with you, one of whom is fluent in Cantonese.

It's really legit if there are 25% or fewer people there - both workers and customers - that can speak English.

There's a little place I go for pho that's always packed to the rafters. I've never seen another white face in the place, nor heard anyone speak a word of English. I have to order by pointing at the menu.

Yeah, the Indian place I go to is run by Indians, 80%+ Indian customers. I honestly don't know what the items are, and just have to work my way through the menu.

I asked once what something was. It was called Chicken Cityname or something.
Him: It's like the chicken that you get in Cityname.
Me: What makes it like that?
Him: They generally eat it in Cityname.

Me: Ok, what about Chicken Cityname2
Him: Oh, so delicious! just like they make it in Cityname2.

It's even more legit if you drive by after hours and see a gang of chefs sitting inside, gambling for money.

My fave Chinese place is full of Chinese peeps working there, and I always wonder if the serving girls are slaves, because none of them seem very happy.
