I notice the reviews keep saying it's good compared to Windows 8. Will check with my MS nerd buddy on it. He might have it running already.Leisher wrote:Anyone else completely stunned that it's getting such rave reviews?

I've seen it compared to both 8 and 7 saying it brings the best of each to the table.
I'll be installing it on a Surface today.

I'm going to give it at least 6 months before I upgrade a Windows 7 machine.,.. probably my wife's. Let her deal with the problems before I take the plunge.
It's hard to find a good upgrade reason when I think 7 is perfect for my needs. Basically, I just need to know it for when I need to support my stupid family's stupid tech support issues on their stupid systems they bought at stupid Walmart and then got a bunch of stupid viruses from playing their stupid facebook games.

Reports are that the reason they can give it away is because they are collecting a shitload of your data.
That's conspiracy theory craziness. This free giveaway is about reestablishing themselves in the market.
Anyone with an IQ above 80 should be able to not select express install and opt out of all the data collection stuff. I didn't see anything in there that I haven't seen in anyone else's EULAs.
Although, I'll admit what they come out and tell you they'd have access to and would see is creepy.
I saw an article this weekend where someone had concerns about the WiFi feature. (Again, you can turn it off.) Basically, it shares your WiFi with FB friends and contacts without them needing to do anything. Not a good feature.
Also, I have heard there's a 1GB patch hitting really soon to fix several glitches and add some features they left off.

It's done a decent job on gaming.
Nothing too bad. Nothing too good.
Basically, business as usual.
