Shows to watch
I need a show (or shows) to watch while working out.
Requirements:
* Must be entertaining.
* Must be relatively fast paced. (Comedies don't really work, action is good).
* Must not be something my wife wants to watch.
* Can't be too deep / something I have to think about.
* Preferably has SEVERAL seasons already in the can that I can, uh, find.
Past shows for examples:
* Boardwalk Empire (A little slow at times, but mostly good)
* Breaking Bad (A LOT slow at times, probably too slow). I tried watching the Saul Goodman show, but I couldn't make it through the first episode.
* Burn Notice -> About perfect.
Suggestions?

It's not me, it's someone else.
I envy anyone who has yet to experience The League. Everyone I've introduced to that show has loved it.
Psych is a buddy comedy-drama about a guy who pretends to be psychic and works with the police. The chemistry and banter between the two main characters makes the show.

Given your description (mostly fun action, not too deep, several seasons already done) I bet you've already watched most of the ones that come to mind, but just in case I mention something you missed here are my suggestions (in no particular order):
* The A-Team
* MacGyver
* Buffy the Vampire Slayer
* Chuck
* The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
* Stargate
* Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
* The Fall Guy
* Riptide
* Sledge Hammer!
* Quantum Leap
* Babylon 5
* Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
Some of these are deeper than others, but all of them are probably at least somewhat enjoyable if given only partial attention. I'm not sure how well the older ones will hold up, though; some I haven't seen since they were new.

Sledge Hammer!
Still good.
The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
I forgot this existed.
The Fall Guy
But somehow not that one.
The A-Team
Skip the last shitty season.

I used to watch A-Team reruns back in the late 90s when I used a treadmill. It worked.TPRJones wrote:Given your description (mostly fun action, not too deep, several seasons already done) I bet you've already watched most of the ones that come to mind, but just in case I mention something you missed here are my suggestions (in no particular order):

I've watched about half the ones you've listed.
I'd prefer something more contemporary. Do they make shows like this any more?

I always found, "Son of the Beach" to be in that vein, and hilarious.Malcolm wrote:Still good.Sledge Hammer!

I second the Chuck recommendation, but that last season of that kind of sucked compared to the other seasons.
Monk was a decent hour long drama-comedy. Its a USA show that shared time with Psych and Burn Notice.

I'd have to say on the whole no, not really. Most modern shows are either stupid (such as reality tv or sitcoms) or deep enough that you have to actually pay some attention to keep up (like Walking Dead, Scandal, anything by Aaron Sorkin). There aren't nearly as many shows that fit into the middle ground of being a good surface entertainment that you can still enjoy while missing any deeper bits, but that is also not just dumb.
I think that has more to do with good tv getting better than dumb tv getting worse. But I'm an optimist.
EDIT: Oh and for the record I second Monk and Psych. But I didn't list them - and many others - because I didn't think they fit the terms described. They're leaning more into the "pay attention to properly enjoy" camp. Burn Notice is deeper as well, but it also has explosions and gunfire and thus can still satisfy on a surface level.
