Mama

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Another I have had on the DVR for over a year, and finally pulled the trigger on it.

I shouldn't have waited, it was good.

Spooky, fucked up, scary, creepy, sad, there are little girls in distress, and there is a brave ending that I didn't expect. I will say no more.

Worth a watch.

This movie is lingering in my brain. May need to watch it again.

I'm not big on horror flicks, but this one was a good one.

Where did you watch this movie?

I've checked Netflix and HBOGo and neither has it.

I DVRd it off a free HBO weekend like a year ago.

edit - It may have been Skinimax. They often do free weekends at the same time.

I know I've seen it on HBO at some point in the past six months.

The fact it isn't available on HBO-Go makes me a little dubious of HBO-Go at $15 a month.

You're obviously not paying them enough for the awesome content providing they do.

I use someone else's HBOGo account, but I can say that it would not be worth $15 a month.

Maybe... MAYBE for 3 months a year when GOT is on. But then I am paying $45 to watch the show and then $45 again later when the blu rays come out. Ugh.

You could just buy it the month after a season ends and binge watch for $15. You could also just not buy the Blu-Rays...

HBOGo is a lot like Netflix except more expensive, has only their own programming, doesn't even have all of their own programming, and has a much smaller selection of movies.

Other than that, it's awesome.

Back to the topic at hand, I watched Mama tonight. Maybe I got a little too hyped for it or maybe it's because I'm very "meh" on ghost stories, but it didn't blow my skirt up.

Spoilers

I found the acting to be great all around, particularly the girls, but I thought Mama herself was dopey. Also, didn't get the "wrong" considering she's the one that caused it.

Hilarious moment late in the film when Annabelle calls Josh (or whatever):
"I'm driving to the cabin, mama has the girls."
Literally 2 seconds later, the car stops as Josh walks out in front of it.
"OMG Josh, what are you doing here?"
"I got your message. Where are the girls?"
Continuity person was asleep at the wheel on that one.

End Spoilers

Again, I'm not a big ghost story person so I don't think I'm the right audience for this flick.

More spoilers

I think the note that got struck for me was the younger sister. At first she as so developmentally fucked up she couldn't' even walk erect.... I wonder how they got that little girl to move like that early on going to the house for the first time, holding on to her sister. I wonder if they had her in some brace that left her hunched over.

And then she just couldn't learn that Mama wasn't where she should be.... going gleefully to her death because she loved a ghost... she was just a messed up little girl.

I don't know, I maybe it just made me feel bad and the movie seemed better than it was.
