Given somebody else's accomplishment, I don't usually think "I wish I had done that." (I'm not talking about sexing up a woman).

The exception is music. Sometimes I hear a song and think: I wish I had written that.

It's very strange.

Back in 2005/2006, when all those house flipping shows were on, I was like "DAMN I wish I could short the housing market."

Then later I read that John Paulson had done it, and I wish'd I had done it. Granted, he had access to investments I didn't, but oh well.

So I rarely have those thoughts too... but they generally revolve around investing/business ideas. Things where I think I could have actually thought of them, or had similar ideas (but never acted on).
It's not me, it's someone else.

Back in 2000 I was converting DTMan into a script based, database driven app that could be easily added to and maintained by anyone on dtman to whom I gave access. I had the thing written and was polishing to go "live" and I was thinking, "Hmmm, I could covert this into an application that anyone could download and use and network with their friends and it would be pretty neat."

Then invite.net erased all of my php files and social networking apps had to wait another year, or so.

So I wish invite.net hadn't done that and killed my motivation.
