Letterman is not the same guy who followed Johnny Carson years ago.

I think he has become a very bitter, and quite honestly, feeble looking old man. I fully expect him to yell "Get off my lawn" every time I see him.

I think being forced out at NBC, his sex scandal, and his constant losing to Leno in the ratings war has taken quite a toll on the man.

It's sad because I genuinely think he's a decent guy. Probably way too proud and ridiculously liberal, but when it comes to people, I think he's one of the few in Hollywood whom you can take at face value. His loyalty to Conan being exhibit A.

Anyway, here's what prompted this post today:
Article & video of a recent Letterman monologue. It not only includes the shot at Leno, but also highlights how he's become one of the Democratic party's biggest attack dogs. (Trump is his latest mission.)

Between his politics, his scandal, his rapidly advancing age (he shows it physically and in his attitude), and his bitterness it's no wonder the guy can't win a ratings war despite being on the #1 ranked network for years.

Nobody likes getting stuck at a party with the cranky bitter guy. Have him forcing his politics on you, and it gets even worse. They may not really love the other guy, but at least he's not going to constant proclaim your ignorance for not having the same political beliefs as him.

P.S. Saw him accept the Carson award on a Comedy Central special, and I've never seen him look older. He spoke really slowly, never looked up, lost his train of thought throughout the speech, etc. I felt really bad for him. It was pathetic.

I think he's well past the days when he should be hosting his show. Which is fine, though, because so is Jay Leno.

He's just another TV dude that wants ratings.
